Notes on Theory Construction and Theory Testing: A Response to Osgood and Lauritsen

Terence P. Thornberry

The author's article on interactional theory and on intergenerational models presented at the Albany Symposium received comments from Wayne Osgood and Janet Lauritsen. They raised several issues concerning theory construction, empirically testing developmental and intergenerational models, and collecting longitudinal data. The present article responds to those issues, continuing the discussion of life-course theories of crime begun at the symposium.
