Technology for the Factory of the Future

It is becoming increasingly apparent that major investments in technology will be required in the near term if industrial firms are to maintain their competitive edge in the marketplace. This development will be both driven and limited by the state of the art of technologies associated with the evolving factory of the future. An examination of technological developments and emerging applications provides a better understanding of the factory of the future and its implications for the existing social and economic order.
